[edit] Characters
- Abel - Abel is a strange individual. He usually talks about the "battle field". He is a man of little words simply trying to find himself. His quiet nature is often mistaken for aloofness and emotional detachment, but in truth Abel is a kind and compassionate man, though his amnesia has caused him to develop a tough outer persona.
- Akuma
- Balrog
- Blanka
- Cammy
- Chun-Li
- C. Viper - is an American fighter employed by S.I.N., and presumed head of the "Battle Suit" Project. In reality, Crimson Viper is a secret agent under the employ of a U.S. government agency, presumably the CIA. She enters and participates in the latest world tournament under the guise of acquiring data for the Battle Suit for S.I.N., though her true motives are to acquire data from the BLECE Project, in addition to eliminating "Number 15".
- Dan
- Dhalsim
- E. Honda
- El Fuerte - is a Mexican luchador who spends his time perfecting his lucha libre skills and honing his cooking abilities. His indomitable spirit is a match for even the legendary Zangief. He now travels the world in an effort to assemble the greatest recipes on the planet. His name is Spanish for "The Strong One."
- Fei Long
- Gen
- Gouken
- Guile
- Ken Masters
- M. Bison
- Rose
- Rufus - He is a portly fighter who hails from the United States. Using self-taught kung-fu, he believes he is America's best martial artist as well as handsome, and takes himself very seriously in this regard. In addition Rufus can tend to speak in a long-winded manner, demonstrated through his victory quotes. Angered that Ken Masters is declared the best fighter in America, his girlfriend Candy suggests that he find and fight Ken in a televised event, and declaring Ken his rival he sets out to find him. However, he tends to mistake other fighters constantly for Ken, and upon actually finding him Ken states he doesn't know who Rufus is, angering him further before they fight. Rufus is later shown pushing his motorcycle uphill with Candy on board, using it as training and blaming Ken for the predicament.
- Ryu
- Sagat
- Sakura
- Seth - is the main antagonist of the game and the head of S.I.N.. Seth is the 15th of 27 enhanced beings that use data collected from the world warriors to create a deadly style of mixed martial arts.
- Vega
- Zangief
- Adon (cameo)
- Yun & Yang (cameos)
[edit] Story
It was revealed in the January 2008 issue of EGM that Street Fighter IV would take place in between Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III, making it (storywise) an interquel.
The game takes place approximately several months after the events of the companion movie Ties that Bind. After Seth's escape, the S.I.N corporation began another fighting tournament in order to draw out the most powerful fighters on Earth to complete the BLECE project. Each character has their own reasons for entering this tournament, but S.I.N.'s real desire is to lure Ryu to them in order to analyze the Satsui no HadÅ, believed to be the last piece of data needed to complete BLECE.
The tournament is publicly organized by S.I.N., apparently using preliminary matches and a point system to determine who is allowed to enter (as shown by the conversation between Seth and his lackey about how Dan Hibiki was able to "squeak by with just enough points to qualify").
