[edit] Characters

  • Strider Hiryu
  • Ton Pooh - Ton Pooh was one of the three assassin sisters that were sent after Hiryu to stop him from getting to the Third Moon. Her looks are quite misleading. She can be as beautiful as she is deadly on the battlefield, due to her kicks. Not much is known about where she's from, but since she speaks the Mandarin dialect of Chinese, she could be from Beijing or from one China's many other provinces. She has also appeared in Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes as a helper.
  • Solo - Solo is a bounty hunter with a very costly price on his head. This skilled individual uses jet-propelled attack armor to eliminate his targets clean and fast. He has been hired by Grandmaster Meio to dispose of Strider Hiryu whose skill is practically equal to Solo's. When it came to combat however, Hiryu came out the victor, not only once in Siberia, but twice when confronted by him again on Meio's base, the Third Moon.
  • Grandmaster Meio - He is a mystic being from another realm bent on galactic domination, and evil as sin. Meio wields great supernatural power, which he uses for the conquest and destruction of all life. Many worlds have fallen to their knees, and it looks as if Earth is next on the dinner table. After undermining the Russian government and throwing the country into turmoil, he sent his minions to the capital of the ex-Russian state Kafazu. By enlisting the help of a corrupt former General of the Russian army, he begins his conquest. The sorcerer sees all, and knows of one who has the power to destroy him, Strider Hiryu. With the powers of darkness and an unholy army at his side, he aims to kill the one man who could defeat him.
  • Captain Beard - Beard is a bearded pirate who pilots the flying fortress Balrog. If Hiryu can cause the collapse of the Balrog, Beard fights to the death as he flees using his hooked hand and his whip that has great reach.
  • Michiel - Prime Minister of the Russian Confederacy, Michiel and his subordinates pledged allegiance to Grandmaster Meio for world domination. In return, they are endowed with the ability to fuse themselves into the eternal serpent of Mother Russia's hammer and sickle... Ouroboros!

[edit] Story

Strider Hiryu, a ninja-style warrior, must defeat a legendary being known as Grandmaster Meio. Meio has observed Earth from his dwelling in a far-off galaxy, and has created a space station (known as "The Third Moon"), between Earth and its original moon in order to rule earth and continue observation. The year is 2048. Armed with a cypher (a razor-sharp blade, wielded similarly to a tonfa which generates metal-cutting plasma) called Falchion, Hiryu must travel around the globe (including the Soviet Union and the Amazon Rainforest) to find and destroy the evil being. Throughout his travels, Hiryu encounters many power-ups, including robotic animals called "Options" (a hawk and a panther) which help him defeat enemies. He also has the ability to latch onto walls and ceilings using a metallic hook — an aspect which set the game apart from other platformers.

[edit] Notes

Strider Hiryu's first appearance was in the pages of Kadokawa Shoten's manga. The arcade game was based on his adventures.

Strider Hiryu, Ton Pooh, Solo and Grandmaster Meio all appeared in the crossover strategy-RPG game Namco x Capcom.
